Pipex Woes

As many of you know I work for a hosting company called Pipex, well we were called Pipex until Tiscally bought the DSL site, now are called GXN. Let me make it quite clear “I can not fix your broadband, I work for the webhosting site of the business!”. Well there are quite a few people out there who have had problems with the DSL site of the business. Last night I needed to get some shopping when I got home from work, so getting changed out of my work stuff I pull on the first thing I had to hand, this being a Pipex top. BIG MISTAKE.

So there I was at the check out and the guy staffing it notices the logo and cant help telling me all his dsl problems and how Pipex had never to his dsl to work blah blah blah. but while he is doing this I am trying to enter my pin number wrong number wrong number wrong number Card locked. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Water heater woes

So as you may have read in my previous posting “A very British Earthquake” I have a bad sensor on my water heater, this is ment to detect leaks, but mine has an additional function of sensing Earthqukes. Now my water heater is right over my washing machine and this has ment for the last 6 -7 weeks when ever my washing machine goes into it’s spin cycle the alarm goes off. To further add to my woes this shuts off all the water in my apartment. However this is now fixed and I will be able to do my washing with out the ear piercing screech of an alarm.

A very british Earthquke

Today I experienced my very first earthquake! I live around 30 miles NW of London in the foothills of the Chiltens a very green and pleasant arear. Nothing ever happens, no extreme weather or anything.

So there I was lying in bed trying to get to sleep listening to an audio book (The 5th Elephant), just drifting off and then there is a slight rumble and it feels like I train is going past my apartment, this goes on for around 10 seconds. Not thinking anything about it for another 5 seconds, them the leak sensor on my water heater goes off (loose cable I will cover that some time soon). So anyway I get up to go and reset it, knowing that I will not be able to get back I make my self a cupa and turn on News 24 there is something uninteresting that they are reporting on and I just sit there drinking my tea and emailing a fiend in the state. I hear the word earthquake and England so thats it pretty boring but my first quake. From what I hear it was around 5.1 on the rikta scale, a scale that only the media use!

Blue Monday

Ok, well it is here again. The most depressing day of the year. Like the sound of an elephant dedicating the bill plop through the letter box, the weather is dull and miserable, and there is less light than the glove box of an Austin Allegro. To top all of this off my normal 30 minute commute took me almost 2 hours thanks to some idiot on the M40 panging his or her car.

Almost 4 hours into the work day, and not even the thought of being almost half way through cheers me up, so I think I will take the rest of the day off, go home and curl up in bed with a good book, something summery and pray for spring to arrive.

Of course what will probably happen is that when I get home I will turn on my computer and do some more work, I am kinda sad that way, but then it has to be done.

A New Year, a new hope

Well another new year has begun, and this year I made 2 new years resolutions, first I will try and add more to my blog, who know I may even keep this one. The second is that I will not make silly new years resolutions that I will never keep.

Whats happening in the world of me at the moment then, well my work is keeping me very busy, still writing loads of support documentation that no one ever reads. I will be trying to update the main blueadmiral.com website when I have some time, and I will try and get out and about with my camera. Since the php update on 1&1 some time ago my old coppermine gallery is no longer fully functional, so I have decided to use Flickr, you can see my photos at this link : http://www.flickr.com/photos/10221816@N05/

Can you hear the drums!

All I can say is WOW! The last 3 ep’s of Dr. Who SE13, fantastic, great to see the master back, a villan with style!

For all of those who know me I am doing very well, I have a job that I love and I am busy as a busy person who just found out he has a deadline in 10 minutes (sorry blackadder). The company that I work for is launching lots of new products so all the support documentation has to be written and published, thats down to me so I will be around yet very busy.

No really I am back!

Perhaps my last post was a bit premature, but from now on I will make an effort to keep this a little more up-to-date. Over the past few weeks I have been really busy with my work at Pipex Hosting. After years at 1&1 I had forgotten what it was like to be happy at work, doing interesting work and learning new skills. The past few months have seen me revamping the online support systems for Pipex’s domain registration arm “123-reg.co.uk”, you can see my work at http://www.123-support.co.uk.

Well as I say I am going to try and keep this blog more up-to-date, but hey no promises ;)
